Prepare your child at TBI for his/her Bar-/Bat-Mitzvah and at the same time, provide discussion platforms for many important and relevant contemporary Jewish topics!

Temple Beth Israel offers a unique and personalized Bar/Bat Mitzvah training program.  The program is led by TBI’s B’nai Mitzvah and Tefillah Coordinator  Arlene Needleman. She has been training students in our community for many years. Mrs. Needleman makes sure each child reaches his/her maximum potential. As both an educator and parent of three B’nai Mitzvah celebrants herself, Mrs. Needleman knows all that goes into preparing a child for this wonderful experience.

We offer one on one B’nai Mitzvah lessons throughout the months prior to your simcha. Students also have the opportunity to meet and learn directly with Rabbi Epelbaum.

In addition, Mrs. Needleman has taught many Special Needs Bar/Bat students in our community. Temple Beth Israel welcomes the opportunity to help all children achieve the mitzvah of Becoming B’nai Mitzvah.

Activities/studies of our students include…• Studying the various Tefillot (prayers) in preparation for leading of their Bar/Bat Mitzvah service…

• Talit/Tefillin participation during TBI’s Thursday morning minyan services. This includes the Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebrant being called to the Torah, possibly reading a portion of the Torah, and helping to lead the associated prayer service.

In addition to the above, during our students’ Bar-/Bat- Mitzvah year, they are encouraged to seek out and participate in a “Mitzvah Project”. After they’ve participated in an ongoing basis on their chosen Project, we encourage them to describe it and what it meant to them — as part of their Bar/Bat Mitzvah D’var Torah presentation.
