About TBI

Shalom

Our Rabbi, Officers, Board of Directors, and Staff welcome you to the fellowship of our Temple Family. We have developed this website to acquaint you with the activities and opportunities that await you as a member of our congregation. We hope that you will find these inspiring and satisfying, and that you, your family and friends will come to look upon Temple Beth Israel of Greater Ft. Lauderdale, Florida ("TBI") as your spiritual home.

Our Rabbi

Rabbi Hector Apelbaum joined Temple Beth Israel as our spiritual leader on July 23, 2014. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, he was deeply involved in the Masorti/Conservative Youth Movement. After earning a Masters Degree in Psychology, he went on to conduct his rabbinical studies at Seminario Latinoamericano, and obtained his ordination in Israel at Bet Hamidrash Lelimudei Lahadut, HaRav Shmuel Avidor Hachoen. Rabbi Epelbaum served in Conservative pulpits for over 18 years in Argentina, Israel and the United States. These experiences have helped crystallize his belief that congregations are "organizations of people dealing with religion" rather than "religious organizations dealing with people". The Rabbi is married to wife, Berta, and they have three adult children.

We at TBI are happy to have Rabbi Epelbaum, Berta, and their family with us at this time in the life of our congregation.

Our High Holy Days Cantor

Natalia Arazi, became (in 2000) the first woman to graduate with a Cantorial Degree from Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano Marshall T. Mayer.

She began her career singing in Temples at the age of 16, and, since then, has been singing in choirs and further developing herself as a backup cantor and then as a main cantor within a number of Buenos Aires’ temples.

Natalia presently serves as cantor of Temple Bet Am in Buenos Aires and is a member of the Association of Cantors "Cantorlat". She is married to Marcelo Kupferberg and they have two sons, Ezequiel and Matias. We are very happy that Cantor Natalia Arazi will again be with us to help beautify our upcoming High Holy Day services!
