About TBI

Shalom

Our Rabbi, Officers, Board of Directors, and Staff welcome you to the fellowship of our Temple Family. We have developed this website to acquaint you with the activities and opportunities that await you as a member of our congregation. We hope that you will find these inspiring and satisfying, and that you, your family and friends will come to look upon Temple Beth Israel of Greater Ft. Lauderdale, Florida ("TBI") as your spiritual home.

Our Rabbi

Rabbi Efrem Reis joined Temple Beth Israel on July 1, 2012 as our new, full-time spiritual leader. He was born into a Flint, Michigan "rabbinical family" led by his father, Rabbi Paul Reis, z"l, who served as Congregation Beth Israel's rabbi for many years. Rabbi Efrem's "Yiddishkeit" was further fostered by his 12 summers at Camp Ramah in Canada. In addition to his recent Rabbinic Ordination at the Jewish Theological Seminary, Rabbi Reis also received an MA in Jewish Education from the Davidson School of Jewish Education where his concentration was in informal/experiential education.

We at TBI are happy to have Rabbi Reis, wife Lauren, and young daughters, Ella and Leba, with us at this time in the life of our congregation.

Our High Holy Days Cantor

Natalia Arazi, became (in 2000) the first woman to graduate with a Cantorial Degree from Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano Marshall T. Mayer.

She began her career singing in Temples at the age of 16, and, since then, has been singing in choirs and further developing herself as a backup cantor and then as a main cantor within a number of Buenos Aires’ temples.

Natalia presently serves as cantor of Temple Bet Am in Buenos Aires and is a member of the Association of Cantors "Cantorlat". She is married to Marcelo Kupferberg and they have two sons, Ezequiel and Matias. We are very happy that Cantor Natalia Arazi will again be with us to help beautify our upcoming High Holy Day services!
